Julia Buchanan
THE DIRECTOR
Julia Buchanan is a Cape Town-based art advisor and strategist who specialises in Contemporary Art from Africa. She holds an MA in Cultural Leadership from the Royal Academy of Arts and the Maastricht School of Business, a BA in Painting from the Michaelis School of Fine Art, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Entrepreneurship - making her as much a creative as she is a business mind.
Julia’s career spans impactful roles at leading art institutions, including the Norval Foundation. In 2023, she launched Art School Africa - a registered non-profit organisation dedicated to empowering emerging art professionals across the continent.
Blending deep market expertise, entrepreneurial drive, and a commitment to uplifting local talent, Julia is reshaping how collectors and corporates engage with art from Africa. Whether facilitating exhibitions, advising on collections, or championing the next generation of artists, she is a dynamic force in the art world.
